Planning for Lochgelly’s Future—Driven by Community, Not A92 Convenience
The Planning & Infrastructure Sub-Group of Lochgelly Community Council is committed to shaping a more sustainable, resilient, and well-served Lochgelly. We advocate for infrastructure & planning that meets the genuine needs of residents. From Healthcare and transport to public services and green spaces, we scrutinise plans to ensure they reflect long-term community wellbeing over short-term developers' gain.
We've campaigned for a review and update of Lochgelly’s Local Development Plan, which we believe no longer reflects the realities or aspirations of our town. The 2010 local charrette envisioned new schools, a health centre, a shopping district, and better transport links. Instead, the current plan, shaped by outdated assumptions and insufficient community input, has led to huge land allocations that risk overdevelopment with expensive housing without essential infrastructure, especially as local services like fire services and healthcare face cuts and constraints.
We have submitted our ideas and recommendations to Fife Council for inclusion in the Next Fife Plan 2026/27.

Some of the projects we are currently working on include:
- Protecting the Public Park from being used as Drainage & Suds for the Hall Street development
- Creating a community-led local plan for Lochgelly.
- Registering protection for wildlife, ancient woodland/trees & green space
- Being a community voice in consultations about community use buildings, reducing Fire Services & creating new local development plans for Lochgelly
